ASR Mastery: Scoping & Proofing

This course demonstrates how ASR can increase a transcriptionist’s productivity. Students will learn how to navigate and overcome the challenges of scoping ASR-produced first drafts. Scoping is the act of editing the first draft (i.e., a rough transcript) against the audio captured during a legal proceeding.

This course will prepare you with best practices for scoping to more easily catch errors and produce accurate transcripts. Students will use general formatting rules when creating transcripts for depositions, court, and other legal proceedings. These general rules can be applied when transcribing the majority of state cases. This course does NOT cover the federal formatting required for AAERT certification. This course does not train students how to use their word processor, ensuring a streamlined focus on scoping techniques and productivity enhancement

Although this course is more heavily centered around scoping the first draft generated by ASR, it would still be beneficial training and practice for someone who will be scoping a first draft generated by a stenographer.

Equipment Requirements: MS Word, CAT software, or other word processors and a transcription audio player.

Equipment Suggestions: A foot pedal (e.g., Infinity) compatible with your audio player and transcription headphones.

Pre-Requisites: This course is intended for students who have experience working as a legal transcriptionist or who have already taken the following courses: • Transcription English, Grammar, and Punctuation • Deposition Fundamentals OR Legal Transcription
